Timing is Right: We’re Focused on Reinvigorating Economic Development in Todd County

Following more than a decade of incremental economic progress, a joint effort between community leaders, business owners, and stakeholders seeks to reenergize growth and development in Todd County.

The revitalized strategic plan, created in partnership with consultant Erik Draxten of Amerdaco Services, was unveiled during the Todd County Development Corporation’s (TCDC) annual “Partners & Progress” meeting on April 9th at the Browerville Community Center.

During the event, Draxten and executive director Leah Wolkow shared the stage, paying homage to TCDC’s history while also acknowledging the need to define a clear path forward.

That path was developed by the board and Wolkow during two planning sessions with Draxten, providing comment cards at the annual dinner for the attendees to give feedback and input.

“TCDC exists to build opportunities together with our businesses and community members while also keeping a strong focus on collaboration to help shape the future of Todd County,” said Wolkow. 

Community Input Played a Large Part in Framing the New Strategic Plan

TCDC’s refreshed strategic plan, “The Next Chapter: Our Path Forward,” also marks the organization’s first major overhaul in nearly a decade.

Ushering in a new chapter for economic development in Todd County, the plan relies heavily on a reinvigorated response to the evolving, local needs of area businesses while also building on the foundation of pandemic-era, community supported programs.

Community Collaboration Essential to Forging a Path Forward 

Anchored by a set of values including collaboration, confidentiality, respect, advocacy, and integrity, TCDC also unveiled a list of community priorities shaping the path forward to 2031, which include:

• Broadband: Supporting the availability of broadband internet through partnerships with local, federal, and private entities as well as community advocates
• Housing: Engaging with investors to better understand the housing needs of Todd County with the goal of increasing housing affordability and inventory 
• Businesses: Retain and expand businesses by engaging owners and hosting various events throughout the year to encourage networking and sharing of resources
• Childcare: Active partnerships with local resources and families to improve the availability, quality, and affordability of childcare in Todd County

“We firmly believe that supporting diverse economic growth and development will strengthen Todd County and our surrounding communities,” said Wolkow.
